At Jaydev Bhawan in this city on Friday, President of India Droupadi Murmu will unveil 20 engineering books that have been translated into Odia.

The first year's textbooks—nine for degree students and eleven for diploma students—have been translated by the Technical Education department in partnership with the Institute of Odia Studies and Research.

To ensure better comprehension and teaching-learning outcomes, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), in accordance with National Education Policy 2020, has launched technical education in Indian languages for the academic years 2021–2022.

AICTE Technical Book Writing and Translation is now available in 12 Indian languages on the schedule, including Odia. Subrat Prusty, member secretary of the Institute of Odia Studies and Research, reported that 64 linguists, translators, and reviewers worked on the first-year books' Odia translations over the course of eight months (from February to August) this year.

After Hindi and Tamil, Odia is the third Indian language into which the engineering course materials have been translated.

IIT-Kharagpur, IIT-Bhubaneswar, and BPUT were initially tasked with translating the works, however, the three schools reported a lack of capacity to do so.

An MoU was then formed to carry out the work between the department and the Institute of Odia Studies and Research. Senior academics from well-known universities in Odisha, IIT, IIIT, and NIT-R, constituted a project monitoring team that chose the 64 professionals to translate the books into Odia.

"This four-year project will translate engineering books at the diploma and degree levels into Odia year by year. We have already begun work on the second-year books, which will translate 88 books (46 diploma books and 42 degree books). We are currently choosing translators.

88 books will also be translated for the third-year course, Prusty added. However, a choice has not yet been made on the fourth-year system. At Jaydev Bhawan in this city on Friday, President of India Droupadi Murmu will unveil 20 engineering books that have been translated into Odia.
